Couple burns to death after car hit by lorry

BATU PAHAT: A married couple was burnt to death after the car they were in stalled in the middle of a highway and was hit by a lorry, causing it to burst into flames.
V. Sudharshan and his wife N. Anuja, both aged 32 from Selangor were on their way to Johor Baru when the incident took place at around 11.25am on June 27 along KM105 of the North-South Highway.

According to Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Police Din Ahmad, the couple was just exiting the Yong Peng R&R area when their car suddenly stopped in the middle of the highway due to an engine fault.
"A lorry coming from the same direction could not avoid the stalled car and hit it from the back,'' he said.
ACP Din said the collision caused sparked a fire that engulfed the car, and police believed the victims could not escape as they had lost consciousness.
He said the victims' bodies were sent to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital here and the lorry driver did not suffer from any injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
