KUANTAN: A 59-year-old Datuk Seri accidentally rammed his car into his wife while making a U-turn, causing her death.

It is learnt that he was making a detour after exiting the guard house at the Bukit Istana residential area, where they lived, and heading towards Kuantan town.

Just then, his 57-year-old wife was about to arrive home from shopping.

She was in another car with her son-in-law and when they reached the guard house, she spotted her husband’s Range Rover.

She asked to be dropped off and then made a dash for her husband’s car as she wanted a lift.

However, she was hit as the Datuk Seri could not avoid her in time.

The victim, who was flung away from the Range Rover, was bleeding from the nose and mouth as well as suffering from broken bones.

She was rushed to a nearby medical centre by her husband and son-in-law but died a few hours later.

Both the victim and her husband were managing directors of a mining company.

“According to the witness statement, she was on her way to a religious programme at about 9pm on Thursday. She was already late so she tried to wave down her husband’s car.

“However, her action was sudden and her husband did not see her as it was dark because the streetlights were blocked by trees,” state Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department chief Supt Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali said yesterday.

He said a post-mortem conducted at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan showed that she died from head and chest injuries.

State police chief Comm Datuk Seri Sharifuddin Ab Ghani said the accident was due to carelessness and there was no criminal element.

He urged the public not to speculate about the tragedy.
