MALACCA: A patient allegedly flashed at a 26-year-old female doctor while seeking treatment at Malacca Hospital.

The 48-year-old, who was being attended to for injuries on his left thigh, exposed his groin to the medical officer and grabbed her hand to check his private parts, claiming that he also had pain on the groin, during a check-up on Aug 18.

State Health, Sport Development and Anti-Drugs Committee deputy chairman Datuk Ng Choon Koon said that the doctor lodged a police report the following day.

“From our initial findings, the patient had requested that the doctor close the screen at the ward before flashing at her.

“We also found out that the man had previously tried to get fresh with the nurses but this time he went overboard,” he told The Star yesterday.

The frightened doctor refused to check the patient and quickly left the ward, said Ng,

He added that the patient had been going to the hospital for check-ups for some time now after being involved in a road accident.

“There was no witness to the incident, although a nurse should have been with the doctor and the patient behind the screen,” he said.

Ng said he would discuss with the hospital management to interview other female medical staff members to determine whether the same patient had acted inappropriately towards them previously.

“We need to know whether this patient should be monitored whenever he turns up for medical check-ups,” he said.

It is learnt that police have initiated investigation under Section 509 of the Penal Code for the offence of trying to insult someone’s modesty
