GOMBAK: Police shot dead two suspected criminals in a shootout at the Selayang-Kepong Highway near here early Friday morning.

Selangor CID chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said police were out on a crime prevention round when they noticed two occupants inside a Proton Waja acting suspiciously near the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM).

DCP Mohd Adnan said when police approached the car, the suspects sped off and a car chase ensued.

During the chase, DCP Mohd Adnan said the suspects’ car rammed into the police car and fired several shots at policemen.

He added that police then rammed into the Proton Waja, causing it to crash into a tree.

“The suspects then exited the car and fired several shots at policemen, forcing the team to return fire,” he told reporters at the crime scene.

DCP Mohd Adnan said paramedics who arrived at the scene later pronounced the two suspects dead.

He added that police also found two pistols as well as 11 packets of drugs on the suspects and in the car.

DCP Mohd Adnan said that police also found nine handphones and two MyKads belonging to other persons in the possession of the two suspects.

He added that police believe that the suspects were involved in four murder cases in the Klang Valley.

DCP Mohd Adnan said that police did not rule out the possibility that the two suspects were also involved in gang activities and drug related activities.

The bodies were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem.
