ALOR SETAR: Malaysian student Norsakinah Naim is reported missing in Paris.

The Malaysian Embassy was alerted about the 19-year-old’s disappearance by her roommate, who suspected that Norsakinah had gone missing after she found her mobile phone unattended in their rented room.

Norsakinah’s father, Naim Awang, 46, said the Malaysian Embassy contacted him on Monday, informing him that his daughter had not returned home for several days.

Norsakinah, a Public Services Department-sponsored student, has been pursuing a course in chemical engineering at the Roanne Institute University of Technology (IUT) in Paris since last year.

Naim, from Sungai Petani, said the last time Norsakinah contacted the family was on Sept 23 and she did not indicate anything weird in her conversation with her mother.

“In fact, her voice sounded very cheerful and she did not appear to have problems. She is a very good daughter and very good in her studies,” he said.

The second of six siblings, who is an alumna of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pekula, Tikam Batu, obtained 10A1 in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination in 2015.
