KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister has expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud for increasing Malaysia’s haj quota.
“Praise be to Allah, beginning this year the quota for Malaysian haj pilgrims has been increased to 30,200.
“Thank you King Salman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. By granting this, more Muslims from Malaysia will be able to perform the 5th pillar of Islam, Insya-Allah,” Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wrote in a Facebook post yesterday.
Earlier, in the Dewan Rakyat, Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim announced that the haj quota this year has been increased from the 27,900 pilgrims previously.
This was made possible by the discussions between King Salman and the Prime Minister during the Saudi King’s working visit to Malaysia recently.
King Salman is also Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
In January, Malaysia’s haj quota was maintained at 27,900 pilgrims compared to 22,230 since 2013. — Bernama
