KUALA LUMPUR: A six-year-old boy here died after being trapped in a daycare van in the hot sun for three hours, yesterday.
Muhammad Iqram Danish, who had been picked up from his house in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, was being driven to fardhu ain class with three other children, at 2pm.
When they reached the kindergarten premises, all the kids alighted, with the exception of Iqram, who had fallen asleep in the back seat.
The 21-year-old driver, unaware that Iqram was unaccounted for, drove back to his home, locked up the van, and left it in its parking spot.
"The driver only realised that Iqram was still in the van when he was about to fetch the kids from kindergarten at 5pm. By then, Iqram was already unconscious.
"He rushed Iqram to a clinic, and later, the Sungai Buloh Hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead due to heatstroke," said Gombak deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Marzuki Mohd Mokhtar.
Police have recorded the driver's statement. The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1) of the Child Acts 2001 for negligence
