KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has declared Sept 4 a public holiday following Malaysia's outstanding performance at the 29th SEA Games.

The Prime Minister was teasing the crowd, saying it was not easy to declare a public holiday, as the crowd chanted "cuti, cuti" at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

"There are too many public holidays in Malaysia. But... due to the overwhelming support and the tremendous performances by our athletes, therefore, the Government would like to announce Sept 4 as a public holiday," said Najib to roars and applause from the excited crowd.

Earlier, Najib said the Games had brought "not double, but triple joy," adding that Malaysia was not only the host of the bilennial Games, but it "turns 60 as a nation."

He said Malaysia's medal tally was very impressive, making it the most successful Games for the nation.

He congratulated the athletes, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar for organising the Games.

After making the declaration, Najib chanted "Merdeka" (Independence) seven times, with the crowd repeating after him.

Earlier, Najib had declared the Games closed.

"I call upon the youths of the Southeast Asian countries to assemble two years from now at the Philippines to celebrate the 30th SEA Games.

“May they display cheerfulness and concord so that the sports torch may be carried on with even greater eagerness, courage and honour for the good of humanity throughout the ages," a beaming Najib said.

The closing ceremony, broadcast live nationwide and beyond, was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Khairy, who chaired the 29th SEA Games Organising Committee, also received a special award from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for a successful Games.

KL2017 was the sixth SEA Games hosted by Malaysia after 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989 and 2001.

The contributions of the thousands of KL2017 volunteers were also acknowledged at the closing ceremony.

Malaysia also handed over the SEA Games hosting duties to the Philippines which was marked by the handing over of the SEAGF flag to Alan Peter Cayetano, chairman of the 2019 SEA Games Organising Committee.

The extinguishing of the KL2017 flame provided a poignant moment for the over 7,000 athletes and officials involved in 404 events across 38 sports featured in the KL2017 which carried the theme 'Rising Together'. Tonight's proceedings were enlivened by songs, dances and cultural performances. - Bernama

SUBANG JAYA: A police lance corporal was found murdered inside the Pinggiran USJ police station this morning, believed to have been shot from close range.

Investigators believe the victim, 29-year-old Valentino Mesa, may have been shot with his own service firearm, which is now missing.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the victim also had a slash wound behind his head.

He said the incident was realised by the victim's colleagues when they returned from a routine patrol at 3.25am.

"When the Mobile Patrol Vehicle unit policemen arrived, they saw that the station was in darkness.

"One of them then went to the front desk counter and saw the victim lying face down on the floor. The policemen then switched on the lights and saw the victim covered in blood, wounded on the head.

"There was also a gunshot wound on his back," he told reporters at the scene.

Mazlan said investigations suggest that the incident could have happened about 2.40am, as witnesses who were around the area heard a loud bang at the time.

He said the witnesses however did not suspect anything amiss, as they thought it was just firecrackers set off by people who were celebrating Merdeka.

He said Valentino, who hailed fron Sarawak had been serving in the force for seven years.

The victim leaves behind a wife.

Mazlan said police are still investigating the motive for the attack. They believe the attack could have been committed by more than one person.

KUALA LUMPUR: The housewife who abused Indonesian maid Nirmala Bonat failed in her bid to strike out her conviction by claiming that the previous judge had been tricked into finding her guilty.

The Sessions Court dismissed the application by Yim Pek Ha, 47, ruling that she had failed to prove how the maid “tricked and defrauded” the previous judge into arriving at that decision.

Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah agreed yesterday with the prosecution’s preliminary objection that the burden fell on the accused to prove such accusations of fraud.

Yim’s lawyer Kamsah Bakar submitted that Nirmala had brought up false issues to manipulate the prosecution into deceiving the court.

He said the maid claimed Yim hurt her in March 2004, contradicting the expert medical report that the injuries occurred later.

However, DPP Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin said the defence failed to provide a clear chronology or adequate information, lacking even an affidavit by the applicant.

The application also failed to state under which law the Sessions Court had authority to set aside the conviction, he added.

The court dismissed the application and ordered RM3,000 in costs paid to the prosecution.

Kamsah told reporters later that he had not received instructions from Yim’s husband Hii Ik Ting on whether or not to appeal.

Yim was charged with four counts of causing grievous hurt to Nirmala at her apartment in Villa Putera, Jalan Tun Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, in January, March and April 2004.

She was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years’ jail by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on three counts of causing grievous hurt to Nirmala with a hot iron and hot water, but was acquitted on the fourth charge of causing hurt to the maid with a metal cup.

On appeal to the Kuala Lumpur High Court, her jail term was reduced to 12 years.

The High Court affirmed Yim’s conviction on the first and second charges but acquitted her of the third charge.

It also overturned an acquittal by the Sessions Court on the fourth charge.

On Oct 1, 2012, the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court decision.

FORTY-FOUR Rohingyas were detained by police today for holding an illegal gathering in front of the Tabung Haji (TH) building in Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh said they were detained for trying to create provocation when police ordered them to disperse.

He said more than 1,000 Rohingyas had gathered since 8am to march to the Myanmar embassy in Jalan Ampang Hilir to hand over a memorandum protesting against the atrocities and killing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Members of the group are believed to have come from all over Malaysia by bus, with the travel arrangement made by the Rohingya themselves, to hand over the memorandum.

"However, after handing over the memorandum, they still gathered around and some acted aggressively, forcing the Federal Reserve Unit to detain them,” said Amar Singh when met at the TH building.

“The Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 does not allow foreigners to hold any protest demonstration or gathering in this country,” he added.

The Rohingya gathering, which only dispersed at 12.30pm, had caused a traffic jam in Jalan Tun Razak. – Bernama, August 30, 2017.

National under-22 squad coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee refused to blame goalkeeper, Muhammad Haziq Nadzli for his error

KL2017: Don't Blame The Keeper, Says Kim Swee On Malaysia's Defeat To Thailand

Pic: NSTPPic: NSTP
KUALA LUMPUR: National under-22 squad coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee refused to blame goalkeeper, Muhammad Haziq Nadzli for his error that handed a goal, and eventually victory to Thailand in the 2017 Sea Games football final at the Shah Alam Stadium.
At a press conference after the game, Kim Swee said the unfortunate error committed by the 20-year-old goalkeeper, who punched the ball into his own net when defending a corner, could have been committed by any player.
"It's a difficult situation for Haziq, and the mistake can happen to any player. We cannot blame him, he's still young and still learning," he told the media.
The defeat appeared to mirror the 2001 final in which Malaysia was defeated by similar circumstances when then national goalkeeper Kamaruzaman Hassan gifted a victory to the Thai squad in the same venue.
The failure to win the Sea Games' “mother of all gold medals” continues to haunt Malaysia since it was last won by Kim Swee’s squad at Jakarta in 2011.
According to the former national player, he is satisfied with the performance of the players throughout the tournament but still expressed slight disappointment for failing to make that final push for gold.
"We had a great start to the game, but we gave them an untimely goal. We tried to push back but we could not make any breakthrough.
"I'm not happy because we didn’t win the gold medal but I’m satisfied with the overall performance of the players with the limited time we've had. We have proven that we can compete with the teams in the region" said Kim Swee.
Although Thailand maintained much of the possession in the first half, they were unable to penetrate the well-organized home side, until Haziq's mistake.
The young goalkeeper who came out to clear a Sasalak Haiprakhon corner, inadvertently punched the ball into his own goal.
The goal was enough for Thailand as Kim Swee's boys were unable to find any breakthrough despite heavy pressure late into the game.

Shahidan Kassim being sued for breach of contract over the purchase of 60,000 rice cookers with his name and Umno Logo

Businesswoman suing Shahidan over unfulfilled rice cooker order

KUALA LUMPUR: An electrical appliance vendor is suing Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim and two others for breach of contract over the purchase of rice cookers allegedly meant for distribution in three Perlis constituencies.
Florence Lee Jye Wen, through an electrical appliance dealer, has named Shahidan, Perlis Umno secretary Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin and Perlis Umno treasurer Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman as the first, second and third defendants respectively.
Lee said a sales representative approached her on May 15, 2015 saying that Perlis Umno wanted to buy 60,000 units of 1.8L rice cookers.
In her statement of claim filed on Apr 6, 2017, she said she was also informed that Perlis Umno required the rice cookers to bear the approved Perlis Umno logo and Shahidan's initials, "DSSK".
The plaintiff claimed that she received an official letter from Perlis Umno on June 3, 2015 stating that Shahidan, who is state liaison committee chairman, had unanimously decided to buy the rice cookers at the price of RM74 per unit.
Together with the letter was a purchase order from Perlis Umno for 10,000 1.8L rice cookers bearing the said logo for RM740,000, signed by its secretary Kamarudin Abdul.
She said that Arau, Kangar and Padang Besar constituencies were supposed to receive 20,000 rice cookers each.
Lee claimed that at all material times, she had only agreed to the price of RM74 per unit on the premise that the party would be buying 60,000 rice cookers.
She said the total value of the agreement dated June 3 was RM4.44mil, being the purchase of the 60,000 units at RM74 each, adding that she proceeded to place the orders for 10,000 rice cookers and prepared the stickers of the said logo.
The plaintiff alleged that she had delivered a total of 2,000 units on Oct 23, 2015, Jan 19 and Apr 6, 2016, following instructions by first defendant and/or Perlis Umno to its Kubang Gajah service centre, Taman JKKK, Pulau Jejawi, Kubang Gajah in Arau at Perlis.
She said since the delivery, Perlis Umno failed to instruct on the delivery of the remaining 8,000 units and has also failed to pay the RM592,000 balance owed.
Lee said she was unable to sell the 8,000 units to a third party to mitigate her loss as the rice cookers had the Perlis Umno logo and the first defendant's initials affixed.
She is claiming RM592,000 being the outstanding sum owed to her by the defendants, within seven days from the date of the judgement, as well as special and general damages.
In their defence, the defendants denied that Perlis Umno intended to purchase a total of 60,000 units of 1.8L rice cookers from the plaintiff.
They also stated that they had never been in contact with or had they indicated that Perlis Umno intended to purchase the units.
They also claimed that there was never any instruction and/or authorisation given at any material time for the issuance of the said letter dated June 3, 2015 to the plaintiff on behalf of Perlis Umno, adding that any official letter from the party with regards to any dealings with third parties would only be signed by the first defendant or second defendant on behalf of Perlis Umno.
The plaintiff's lawyer, Lavinia Kumaraendran, said the next case management has been fixed on Sept 13 for parties to update the court on the status of settlement, and if a settlement is not reached, the court will proceed with the trial, which has been fixed between June 25 and 27 next yea

Malaysia Lose To Thailand In a Repeat of the 2001 Final, When A Goalkeeping Blunder handed the game to the Thai's

Malaysia suffer SEA Games heartbreak, lose final to Thailand

Thailand captured the 2017 SEA games title with a narrow 1-0 win thanks to an egregious error by the Malaysian goalkeeper.

Malaysia succumbed to a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to defending champions Thailand in the Southeast (SEA) Asian Games men's football final on Tuesday night after a first-half gaffe from goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli.

It was a cruel end to a gritty performance from the previously perfect Malaysians who were hoping to secure the gold medal before a packed home crowd at Shah Alam Stadium.

But the Malaysian Ultras were missing from the final in protest at the poor ticketing system that forced fans to queue for hours.

Ong Kim Swee made only one change from the semifinals, with Jafri Firdaus Chew replacing his injured Penang teammate S. Kumaahran.

In the fifth minute, Phittwat Sookjitthummakul fell under the heavy challenge from Adam Nor Azlin and saw his appeal for penalty turned down by referee Chen Hsin-chuan on a slippery Shah Alam pitch, due to a light drizzle.

Haziq did well to turn away Phittwat's header in the 35th minute, but the Malaysian goalkeeper made a big blunder to gift Thailand the lead four minutes later.Malaysia displayed the shirt of injured teammate S. Kumaahran before the final against Thailand at Shah Alam.

Sasalak Haiprakhon's inswinging corner seemed a routine catch for Haziq. But the young custodian somehow misjudged his clearance and punched the ball into his own net.

Thailand ended the first half buoyed by the goal, with the hosts needing to switch things up to chase the equaliser.

Malaysia came out with more intent with the second half, using the flanks to try to unsettle their opponents, who had conceded only once in the tournament.

But the hosts were almost undone through a blistering Thailand counter attack. It ended with Adam Nor Azlin at full stretch to divert Worachit Kanitsribumphen's goal-bound effort in the 52nd minute.

Ong introduced Daniel Amier and Syafiq Ahmad midway through the second half to add more energy, but the hosts still lacked penetration.

Syafiq saw a shot from the edge of the penalty box clear Nont Muangngam's goal before Syafiq drove a daisy cutter into the goalkeeper's arms.

Syazwan Andik had the crowd on their feet with a curling effort that just flew over, as the Malaysians camped out in the opposition's half.

Ong's players threw everything at Thailand in the dying stages, but it proved futile as Worrawoot Srimaka's men ensured a clean sheet to successfully defend their gold medal. It was a heartbreaking loss for coach Ong Kim Swee who had previously overseen five straight victories in the tournament.

Their victory was a repeat of 2001, which saw the Thais edge Malaysia by the same score at the same venue.

But a sliver medal is still a good return for the under-22 side who overcame the odds last month to qualify for January's 2018 AFC U23 Championship.

FAM: SEA Games football ticket sales are not our responsibility

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have clarified that they are not responsible for matters relating to the sale of tickets for SEA Games football and futsal matches.
This includes the sale of tickets for Tuesday's crunch football final match between Malaysia and Thailand at the Shah Alam Stadium.
FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said this came under the purview of the Malaysia Organizing Committee (Masoc) and the Youth & Sports Ministry.
He added that the Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) was also not responsible for the sale of tickets.
"As a representative of FAM, I feel sorry that there are still certain parties who insist on putting the blame on FAM regarding the issue of ticket sales. We are only involved in the technical aspects of the football and futsal matches during the 2017 SEA Games," Hamidin said in a statement on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Ultras Malaya supporters group have said that they will boycott the final as a show of solidarity to those who could not get tickets, which they pinned on a flawed selling mechanism.
Thousands had gathered at the Shah Alam Stadium since Sunday night to queue for the tickets soon after Malaysia had beaten Indonesia in the semi-finals.
Ticket counters only opened at 11am Monday, with each person only entitled to five tickets at RM21.20 each.
Queues for the tickets stretched for kilometres, with many returning empty-handed after queuing up for hours.
Touts took advantage of the situation, with some even selling tickets for the match for up to RM200.

Nonny Sumpah Tiada Skandal Dengan Suami Adira

..
