JPJ's role in KL2017 will not affect normal operations, says D-G

PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ)'s involvement in the Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) Games will not affect its normal operations, said its director-general Datuk Seri Nadzri Siron.
Nadzri said some 1,200 JPJ staff will be on special duty throughout the 29th SEA Games and the 9th Asean Para Games to manage the transportation of the participants.
"Throughout KL2017, the counter services at all JPJ offices in the country will be operating as normal.
"Our enforcement work will also be carried out as usual, with a focus on serious road offences which can cause road accidents.
"There will not be any special Ops during the games," said Nadzri at a press conference on Thursday after launching the training programme for JPJ staff who will be deployed for the KL2017 Games.
The SEA Games will be held from Aug 19 to Aug 30 while the Asean Para Games will be from Sept 17 to Sept 23.
In conjunction with the KL2017 Games, JPJ has been appointed as the Transportation Committee as well as providing and managing transportation services for the games.
"Among JPJ's responsibilities are to ensure the management of transportation is well-organised and efficient throughout the KL2017 Games, from the arrival of the participants, transportation between their lodgings and the events venue and until they return to their home country.
"We will have to arrange transportation for about 13,000 participants, who include athletes, officials and technical officers," said Nadzri.
The 1,200 JPJ staff will also be assisted by 479 volunteers of the KL2017 Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) for the SEA Games, and 300 student volunteers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for the Asean Para Games.
