Cops in nightspot to face the music
The entertainment outlet on the first floor of a commercial complex in Relau, Penang, where the four policemen were screened during a raid.
THE four policemen will be asked to explain why they were there during a raid by Bukit Aman special teams at an entertainment outlet, Penang police chief Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye said.
Comm Chuah said the police had started a disciplinary investigation against them.
“They might be there to carry out investigation. We are still waiting for them to explain,” he said when contacted.
He said the raid by Bukit Aman’s Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) and Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) was based on complaints.
“Although there were some foreign women there, I was told that they were not guest relations officers,” he said.
When asked what action would be taken against the four, Comm Chuah said it depended on the findings of the investigation.
On Sunday, the entertainment outlet on the first floor of a mixed-development project in Jalan Paya Terubong was raided at about 2.45am.
The enforcement team picked up 125 people, including the four, aged between 36 and 55, for screening. All four of them tested negative for drugs.
A police source revealed that three men and a woman, all locals, tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
“The team also brought back 41 Indonesian women and a Nepalese woman for further investigations,” the source said.
A check with the Penang Island City Council revealed that the outlet has a valid licence to operate.
