JOHOR BARU: A senior citizen lost control of his vehicle and drove his Perodua Kenari straight into a petrol station's convenience store space in Bandar Baru Uda, on Tuesday evening.

The 71-year-old driver accidentally drove into the shop, ramming through the glass front, just after he had finished filling up petrol.

However, no one, including the driver, was injured in the incident.

Johor Baru North district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad said the driver claimed he had blacked out after he was done filling up his car.

"Before crashing into the station, the car also hit a motorcycle and another car waiting for their turns to filll up.

"Luckily, the biker was not astride his motorcycle at the time. There was also no risk of fire or explosion during the incident," Taib said.

He said the driver might have stepped on the pedal and caused the vehicle to steer uncontrollably before crashing into the glass wall, slamming into the shelves inside the mart.

"There were no one in the mart during the incident except for the cashier, who was a little shaken up by the incident," he said.

Taib said police have recorded the statement from the driver and had him sent home to rest.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for inconsiderate and careless driving.
