GEORGE TOWN: Police here today detained a 16-year-old boy for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl on two occasions recently.

According to a source, the boy first arranged for an outing with the girl – a schoolmate – through social media several months ago.

When they met at a place in the town area, the boy led the girl to a public park where he later allegedly raped her.

A few months later, the boy re-established contact with the girl, who refused to meet with him.

But he blackmailed her by threatening to reveal their “relationship” to her family. The girl relented, and when they met again, the boy raped her for the second time.

The matter was brought to the police after the girl refused to attend school for many days.

When contacted, Northeast District deputy police chief Supt Izwan Abd Karim confirmed the arrest, but declined to reveal the case details.

“We have confiscated (the boy’s) phone and will investigate further," he said.

The boy has been remanded for six days under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. © New Straits Times
