"I will miss her dearly" - IGP

SHAH ALAM: Over 500 people paid their last respects to Puan Sri Azizah Hamdi, the late wife of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, who died of cancer at 7.02pm today after a 15-year battle.

Azizah’s remains arrived from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre to Selangor police contingent headquarters’ Khalid Al-Walid surau at 8.30pm, where the prayers for the dead was performed.

She will be laid to rest at her hometown in Rapat Jaya, Ipoh, Perak at 9am tomorrow.

Among those present were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim,

Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism division principal assistant director Datuk Ayub Khan Mydin Pitchay, Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor, Selangor criminal investigation department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat and Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli.

In his brief address after the funeral rites, Fuzi said he had accepted Azizah’s death and would “miss her dearly”.

He said Azizah was first diagnosed with cancer in 2002.

“Azizah had expressed her wish to be buried in her hometown, and next to our only son who had died in 2007. I thank everyone for giving me support during this difficult time,” Fuzi said. © New Straits Times Press
