Epic Fit Meals Co has joined the surge of food outlets offering free meals to those who vote on May 9.
PETALING JAYA: It looks like voters will not go hungry on polling day as more companies come forward to offer free meals to those who cast their ballots.
One of the latest to do so is Epic Fit Meals Co, which is giving away a free Chummy Burger to dine-in and takeaway customers on May 9.
“If you care enough to vote, we care enough to give you a free burger,” it said on its website.
To get the free burger, the company said, all customers need to do is show their ink-stained fingers.
Each customer is entitled to one burger, with no minimum order required.
Epic Fit Meals is not the only one who will be providing free food for voters on polling day.
Eng Chun Bak Kut Teh, a popular Chinese restaurant in Klang, will also be serving free bowls of bak kut teh, a pork rib dish cooked in a herbal broth.
Noodle chain Meet Mee meanwhile said it would serve free bowls of Pan Mee at its three branches in Desa Setapak, Danau Kota and Sungai Long.
Malaysians have also rallied on social media with creative plans to encourage a high voter turnout, after the Election Commission came under fire for choosing a mid-week working day as polling day.
The “Pulang Mengundi” movement which began as a Twitter hashtag helps arrange transportation for those who are unable to go home on polling day due to logistic and financial reasons.
A website, www.pulangmengundi.com, now provides carpooling services and travel subsidies, with details of drivers who are offering carpools as well as riders who are looking for a lift home.
Several airlines have also announced incentives including waiving fees to change travel dates and special discounted airfares.
