PUTRAJAYA: Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has reminded all Umno members to be wala' (loyal) and accept the party's decision in the selection of candidates contesting for the 14th General Election (GE14).

Tengku Adnan said Umno members should also comply with the ethics, rules and constitution of the party.

"If the person does not get (to contest in GE14), there must be a reason behind it. But they should not act arbitrarily by following their heart because if they do, this will cause problems. My advice is that as Umno members, we have ethics, rules and constitution.

"I urge them to accept the decision. If they don't, we can sack them immediately as we don't want to keep enemies in our house," he said at the launch of the Presint 11K and 11F surau development here.

He said the termination is to ensure that only 'genuine' members can fight for Umno. "We have seen the scenario. Most of them (who have been sacked) will form a new party. When they fail to get what they want, they will set up a new political party, and then cause trouble to the people and the country. The worst part is some are trying to topple the government.

"I don't understand this, I don't want this to happen. That's why I want them (Umno members) to be aware or action can be taken." he said.

On reports that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) will field its vice president Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, who is also former Election Commission chairman, to contest for the Putrajaya seat, Tengku Adnan said anyone is free to contest for the seat in GE14.

"Anyone is welcome to contest here. No problem. I am ready to face my opponents.

"I am already used to contesting with the PKR deputy president, Federal Territories Pas president and Pas vice-president. So I have no problem at all," he said.

On the tug-of-war over the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat between Umno and MCA, Tengku Adnan, who is also BN Federal Territory chairman, said BN's candidate list has yet to be finalised.

"The list of candidates has not been finalised yet. Why are they so jumpy?

"As BN Federal Territories chairman, I wonder why are these people overreacting. The same applies to the Bandar Tun Razak seat. Be patient. Just wait and see," he said.

On Friday, about 30 people turned up at the Prime Minister's Office, in a move to urge Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is Barisan Nasional chairman, to field Wangsa Maju Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah as a candidate for GE14.

Umno and MCA are said to be showing great interest in contesting the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat. There were also rumours that the Wangsa Maju seat will be "returned" to MCA.

According to speculation, in exchange, the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat, contested by an MCA candidate in GE13, will be handed over to Umno.

Umno Wanita chief, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, is rumoured to be contesting in that area.

In GE13, Mohd Shafei was defeated by PKR candidate, Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong, who won with a majority of 5,511 votes. © New Straits Times Press
