KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — MIC is prepared to face any possible sabotage during the contest for the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat following a dispute for the seat with People’s Progressive Party (MyPPP).

Speaking during a press conference after launching MIC’s manifesto for the 14th general election, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said today that he hoped any decision MyPPP makes would be “in line with the BN spirit”.

“When you head to an election, you have got to be prepared for anything, and that includes sabotage,” Subramaniam told reporters.

Yesterday, MyPPP chief Tan Sri M. Kayveas said that the party would reconsider its membership in BN if it is not given the Cameron Highlands seat.

Kayveas has been active in Cameron for the past year, hoping to be BN’s candidate there but BN secretary general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor recently said that the seat would remain with MIC.

The current incumbent is former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, who is out of favour with the BN leadership.

MIC is expected to field its youth chief C. Sivaraajh there, and Dr Subramaniam said that the party would not back down in its claim on the seat.

Meanwhile, Dr Subramaniam also claimed that MIC now has support from 65 per cent of the Indian electorate based on a survey done by the party grassroots.

“We surveyed some 800,000 Indians, and the national average support now is 65 per cent,” he said.

He said the support now is higher than the last election, where the party had the support of 48 to 55 per cent of the Indian electorate
